falling for this house

It's no secret that I love the fall season.

This time of year always makes me smile.

So while there may be tons of unpacking to be done, I did find time to decorate outside.

princess bedroom

This may be my favorite room in the house.

Dad2Amara freehand part of the castle and stenciled part of it.

But no matter what, it's a great little girl room.

countdown

5 days until we do our final walk thru with the builder.

9 days until we get our keys.

12 days until we are officially moved in.

I haven't posted lately because I no longer have access to the inside of the Grey House. And that means no pictures.

But here's the quick update.

My lighting fixtures are in.

The garage door openers have been installed.

I have bought our new washer and dryer.

We picked up a new TV while we were at it. (I heart the red "touch of color.")

The carpet is looking nice.

The doorknobs rock. (This one is on all of our interior doors.)

And that's just what I can see thru the windows.

I'm hoping the second floor looks just as nice.

the kitchen

I always knew I wanted subway tiles.

This is the view from the kitchen into the family room. I love the view. I love the hardwood floors.

And no, this isn't part of the kitchen but it's the half bath next to the kitchen. And I love how the flooring looks with the wall color.

Yeah, I love a lot about the Grey House.

so while waiting for the school bus

We're still not in the new house. But the school bus picks Amara up from there. So while hanging out, we took a peek into the construction process.

They have started our flooring in the Grey House.

I am infatuated with our hardwoods.

And the tile in our master bath looks better than I expected.

But I will admit, I am not loving the bathroom countertops.

The subway tile for our kitchen backsplash are at the house. I can't wait to see it up!

the long road towards building a home

Dad2Amara and I attended the first of our final two walk throughs.

And when I heard "final," I thought that meant we were nearing the end of the construction process.

Not so much.

The site superintendent informed me we were 6 to 8 weeks away from completion.

That's two weeks after what I had always hoped would be my move in date.

So now we must extend our lease on our temporary housing.

And my dream of having an October Halloween themed house warming party may be going to the wayside.

But today I did take a peek inside the Grey House when some workers let me and Amara in.

Our granite is in.

And our mantle has been stained.

What do you think?

shhhh...

We got inside the house.

I can't tell you how until after we have possession of the keys. But let me tell you. I'm amazed at how easy it was.

Here's the kitchen. As much as I complained, I do like my Cardell cabinets.

I couldn't get a good look at the fireplace from the outside. But from the inside, I love it too.

Amara of course loves the beginnings of her pink castle-themed room.

And her love of the sea came out when she chose the seahorse cabinet pulls for her bathroom.

Here's the upstairs hall that opens up to the foyer.

And here's the makings of a master bath.

And the double doors out of the master bedroom.

Just don't forget. You can't tell anyone you saw the inside of the house...

the latest updates

The stone's up.

We have a driveway.

The doorway they had to rip down and rebuild because I hated how it looked. (And it wasn't done according to Dad2Amara's blueprints.)

The development's landscaping is going in.

And while it's fuzzy because I couldn't use a flash taking the picture through the window, here's the start of my kitchen cabinets.

the house is moving along

The Grey House is starting to really come together.

The siding is nearly complete. We're just waiting for the stone.

And I love the copper above my front door.

All of our inspections have been given the "green" light.

(We were let into the house by the painter this past weekend...just in case you're wondering how I got in.)

I can't prove it

...because we can't break in. (We tried.)

But apparently we now have most of the house drywalled.

We're getting closer...

come on in

My luck must be changing.

After a few weeks of feeling like the world is pitted against me, today we literally opened a new door.

When building, the construction site is technically off limits.

But Dad2Amara turned the knob to our side door and found it was unlocked.

And in walked all three of us to see the progress on the Grey House.

Here's the view from the kitchen into the family room. See my fireplace in the distance?

And our bathtubs are in.

They're almost done siding the back of the house. But I'm still not sold on the color we chose.

And have I mentioned how much I hate the builder's landscape easement? It's huge. And it's really close to our house.

But you know what? It's our house. And we're moving closer to a move in date!
